Team

Janet Cohen Sorrentino, Esq.

Janet_S_31_copy.jpg

Janet has been a longtime advocate for the disabled on Long Island, starting with her two siblings of whom she became guardian and caretaker at a young age. Her path into law started when she began advocating for her brother and sister. She decided to take her experience to law school where she could develop it into a career that would help others. She has intimate experience with the obstacles and complexities one faces when navigating care services for disabled individuals. In her role of guardian and advocate, Janet successfully oversaw the placements of both her brother and sister in wonderful group homes. Her personal experiences with the challenges of her disabled siblings has made her uniquely equipped to assist her clients in avoiding the inevitable emotional and financial pitfalls of poor estate planning. She is fluent in American Sign Language and worked as an ASL interpreter for several years. Janet also worked as the Development Coordinator for an international non-profit community health care organization, which entailed extensive travel to under-developed countries around the world. She practices all aspects of elder law with enthusiasm, skill and care.
